Pelvic Assessment & Treatment

Your pelvic assessment will begin by going through a detailed case history about your current health and any problems or concerns you have about your pelvic health. This assessment will be followed by a musculoskeletal assessment.

The alignment of your hips and back can tell us a lot about your pelvic pain. Your session will begin by evaluating your natural movement. I will check your alignment, diastasis recti, or a separation of the abdominal wall .and observe how you breathe.

I will go over the anatomy of the core and pelvic floor with my model, as well as what the evaluation will consist of. The pelvic floor muscle examination would require you to undress from the waist down but draping will be performed for privacy. I would then complete the exam using a gloved hand. No speculums are utilised. My goal is to make it as comfortable as possible and give you information on what’s happening in your body.

I would then examine the perineal area (vaginal area) externally to look for any asymmetries, scarring, or tissue abnormalities that help me identify areas of inflammation or irritation. Following this external examination, an internal examination will be performed with your permission. The internal examination utilises a gloved finger as my tool to assess the muscles of the pelvic floor. Through palpation of the vaginal wall, I can assess muscle tightness, areas of tenderness or pain, muscle strength and/or areas of dysfunction.

Combined with the history, this would allow me to create a treatment plan for your pelvic pain or bladder dysfunction. Treatment often involves manual treatment both internally and externally, relaxation training, strengthening and behavioural interventions that all work together to help in alleviating your symptoms.

You will most likely feel a shift or change in the symptoms after the first session and may feel a little tired for a few days.
